carnival

I don’t care what you do
I only care who you are
and how you make me feel found
when I’m lost
if I had to give it all up
I would do it for you
if I had to give you up
I would do it too
for you see
our truth is the same
our freedom is a frame
and we are it’s prisoners
and when you cry
I am your greatest listener
to make sure
that every teardrop disintegrates into joy
to confirm
that every ounce of your joy becomes the smile
of a stranger walking by

I share with you my burdens
because you turn them into gifts
without you I’m nothing
but a ghost in the mist
now I shall go
hunting for a melody
that might change the world
perhaps I’ll turn silence
into a playground
with lunatics roaming around
amongst the bears and the clowns
the whole carnival’s in town
