what is compassion?
for me,
compassion is
feeling another’s pain, really feeling it
believing in somebody else when they don’t believe in themselves
understanding and appreciating another’s views even if they differ from yours
helping somebody feel better
picking up someone who is down on their feet and helping them stand
ease the suffering of someone else by really suffering for them and sacrificing a bit of your own well-being to make this possible
Imagine a world where we were all compassionate for one another. Imagine the possibilities. To define one’s own self interest as the interest of all. That is compassion.
Compassion is not a two way street.
It doesn’t have to be when we are all going in the same direction.
But are we? as a race? even among our own crowd?
why not?
what is the rationale in explaining that self-interest does not lead to a place where we all will meet?
we will all meet.
we will all eventually meet at a crossroads.
we can come to the crossroads together and be there now.
or we can be each other’s crossroads. turn left to go where we came from. turn right to go where they came from.
going forward
going backward
meeting in the middle
everything getting better
everything getting worse
at the same time
us
they
no such thing
only us
start thinking in “us” and “we”
then you will see
what i see
this is not a world of nationalities
it is world with only one nationality
world citizens
roaming around
in the wild
lost together
