These are my personal jewels of cinema from the last 50 years. Without them I have no idea who I’d be.
Common themes: love, lust, death, murder, faith, beauty, hope, tragedy, addiction, crime, drugs, outlaws, outcasts, absurdity, violence, surrealism, light, truth, god, darkness, madness, liberation, awakening.
When I get obsessed over a movie I’m usually a sucker for mind bending visuals using light (not a fan of cgi), killer soundtracks, great cinematography/direction/acting and of course masterful storytelling.
Add some brutal violence, witty dialogue, beautiful people, hot sex scenes and you got my attention. What can I say, I’m a bit twisted I guess. It’s all poetry in the end.
When it all comes together and flows right, it’s just pure magic.
I feel like these stories are apart of me and I am apart of them. When I am lost, I return to these movies to feel at home. But also for inspiration, and new ideas/feelings to steal! Just reading the synopsis gets me every time. Takes me right back into the heart of it all. I want to move there and never leave. But I love it when the seasons change.
Did I forget something? It’s possible.
Now it’s time to find the next 50. I’d like to go through the workds of Fellini, Tarkovsky, and some of the older stuff my favorites are influenced by.
(Not in any particular order as they are all timeless masterpieces. Okay maybe a few fun ones in there but they complete the list for me and round off the sharper edges to balance things out, in case you wanna binge watch them all in the next few months. Your life would never be the same again if you did that, that’s for sure.)
