Honestly I just get too excited sometimes. Full of piss and vinegar. Spunk and venom. I need to purge the demons and let them dance. Demons are not evil, they are just emotions that wanna be free. Writing calms me.
And often when I say “you” or “people” I am really talking about me. I kind of get high on my own creative output. I often think this is too much, this song is too long, too intense, too much information. All the usual doubts. And then my mind goes Fuck it, just express your truth and let the others deal with it. Move on the the next one. Just EXPRESS yourself. Whatever comes, let it out. Let it shine.
Since I was about 15, I started writing songs to deal with all the stuff that was happening in my life. I didn’t understand any of it and writing lyrics and music was a way for me to just go away into my own wonder lands. This process became my medicine, my therapy, my friend, my emergency switch, my consolation prize.
In the “real” world I felt defeated. In my own world I was the king of my make-believe throne. Eventually my own worlds became more real so now the real world is the fantasy. There is a very thin line between insanity and ingenuity.
All artists are time-travellers and magicians. Our job is not to understand the physics of what we do. We just do it. That’s why it’s called show business. We show what’s possible. Let the scientists study it.
These days I start working on my songs around 16pm every day. And for the next 6-7 hours I am gone. Flow state. The outer world does not exist anymore. Sometimes the work is stressful and challenging. But I am so lost in the flow that I just figure things out and do the best that I can with what I have at my disposal. Why not longer? Because my ears and body need rest.
I like to stretch myself and usually it’s worth it. Just go with the flow. The rewards and accolades will come if it is meant to be. The right people will find you at the right time. It took me a long time to learn to leave my stuff online so others can enjoy it. I don’t have to constantly meddle with it. I used to be a digital cat with nine lives and I killed them all. Welcome to my cat heaven. Enjoy your stay.
Every song is a new adventure. Exploring and experimenting with sounds and ideas. I often forget to eat or drink until I realise all the hours that have passed. If things are going really well I am full of adrenaline and God juice. This becomes a sort of sexual primitive energy that often follows me into my dreams when I sleep. It can be difficult to unwind, relax and calm down.
I used to go out and get wild in the bars and night life where this “godmode” would follow me as well. Now I am saving myself for that special someone, hehehehh….
Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with my dick rock hard and ready to impregnate a thousand fair maidens to start a new nation…. and then you forget the dream and start chasing it in your life, not really knowing where the energy is coming from or where it is taking you. Somehow you trust this force and late it rule your life. Like singing songs from a dead man’s dream.
So yeah, that’s why I get a little too excited sometimes when I write in case you’re wondering or don’t care. I just wanna share this energy, this joy. I am not running for president any time soon. Unless there is a new party for psychedelic politicians.
Earth is my mistress, my one and only.
In a few hours I will once again switch into another dimension. I wish I could take you all with me. When I perform and share my songs, it’s my way of doing that.
