1.
on the weekends, my currency is bourbon, fast-food, fast-love (unless i am disarmed) and i dress like a cowboy from the 1800s because i’ve probably watched too many clint eastwood movies or not enough of them (my wild side).
2.
my new album sounds like it was made by someone living in an igloo for the last decade who hasn’t seen enough sunsets/rises or trees or birds or lions (or people) that he has to make music to remind himself that things such as intimacy still exist (my subconscious manifesting).
3.
during the week i wear my 80s 10 dollar casio watch, my bright green “long-johns” cords, superman underwear, wrong size hoodies, walk around the streets in my all stars and spend most of that monday-friday, 9-5 thing (since i neither have nor plan to get a “normal” job) just trying to find my own belly button in a sea of hangovers, self-obsession, pop songs, killing time, elaborate life plans, reading books, watching films, buddha poses and swamp water looking fruit smoothies (my inner empire construction).
4.
then of course there is my previous “being-depressed-and-heart-broken-is-cool-and-pretending-to-know-more-about-the-pain-and-sorrow-of-life-than-i-probably-really-do-and-over-romantisizing-all-of-that-into-intense-songs-that-are-strong-but-perhaps-a-bit-too-long-but-which-now-have-luckily-found-much-stronger-form-in-the-way-some-of-those-songs-have-been-reworked-and-reshapen” album of three years ago which was the road map for that 3 year travel/vagabond/backpacker existence which brought be lots of interesting experiences, life long friends, pages and pages of badly handwritten journal entries that i hope i can still understand one day and of course lots of great nicknames e.g. thor, blondejesus, the viking, chuck norris (i hate that one cause he’s an idiot), greg allman, and a few that i would rather not mention. to attempt the overthrow of the man some call me in this town: mape.
so who am i?
i don’t know exactly but i know that i am really none of the above. i am an artist. i am a scientist. my body and mind is the experiment. my life is the canvas i paint on.
at the end of the day, when the costumes come off and the music has ended and when it’s just me lying in bed in a dark room somewhere between morning and night (by myself or not), i am somebody completely different. a stranger even to myself.
