Voice

before you have a voice
you gotta have something to say
before you are known
you gotta have something to show
nobody cares about what you are not
and nobody will smile
if you don’t know how to make them cry

they say it’s not what you know
but who you know
i say it’s how you know
and what you don’t
you gotta lend a hand
to get somewhere
you also gotta push the ladder down
if you are running out of time

nobody will hear you
if you don’t got a voice
before you have a voice
you gotta make a choice
either let go of what you don’t need
or use it and plant it as a seed
for learning
that failure is the greatest teacher
