Are you feeling stuck? Do you feel you need to make some changes in your life? Believe me, I know the feeling. We all do. Here are my thoughts. Two problems are involved in preventing us from change: fear & dopamine (the “reward” neuro-chemical in our system). Change happens when a) EXPERIENCE: things are worse enough in a given area or all areas of life or b) KNOWLEDGE: we are fully convinced/committed that the long-term benefits far overweigh the possible short-term shortcomings of a certain change. Change can happen radically overnight or it can happen little by little. It depends on the individual & circumstances. Note, we are often not fully aware of the deeper things that truly need to change. We often think our problems are something besides what they really are. This leads to running in circles; chasing our tails. When we do become aware of the true problems we are often too weak, lazy, dishonest, helpless, clueless & skill-less to do anything about it. We wait until death comes. Sadly, even the threats of death, discomfort & disease are not enough for most. Nevertheless, change happens. All things change. Everything is temporary. I think it would be wise to incorporate/acknowledge this law of nature into our lives so it doesn’t shock us when things which aren’t in our control, change for better/worse. Just ask the Japanese.
